Windsurfing: Bradfield Wind Direction: East Wind Stength: 18-25kts Surf / Sea State: swell waves flat Air Temperature: 15C Sea Temperature: OK Weather: cloudy sunny Max Speed: 25.56 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 16.2 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
The choice for me was a no brainer, wreck gear on the Easterly high tide
shore dump at Felixstowe or the relative calm of flat water at Bradfield on
the estuary. Arrived 2.30 ish to see Pete and Keith F ready to go, Keith
had 7.5 up. The river looked nice reading 20kts but the first 50 metres
didn't seem windy. Rigged 7.8 awaiting guinea pig Keith first run. Yep he
was over in the middle coming back to rig smaller. Bugger - now had to
de-rig and rig 7.3 North E type.
Pete blasted out on 7 saying overpowered in the middle but OK either end.
Great swells down the channel to run or jump off. Jason turned up with his
camera to do some shots. Loaded the wrong board 146 JP pro instead of the
130 Goya but didn't have enough time to change. Could only sail until 4.30.
Fantastic first run just blasting thru the swell up and down the face to
the other side straight out. Had a metre too much sail in the middle, so
landed other side and flattened everything. Tide was coming in to peak so
lost ground down the river as couldn't sheet in. Nice rides after
flattening sail. but really would have changed to 6.5 if had more time.
Keith F was having a hard time trying to hold 7.m whilst Pete whacked me
for 6 with a 29kt run against my paltry 25.56kts. The big board and rig was
a hand full in the gusts in the middle, and decided it was too risky to run
downwind in the very large swell now flowing down the river. Nice gybing at
the flatter less wind ends thankfully as no chance in the middle. Although
knackered after a couple of runs was still able to stay on the water longer
compared to Felixstowe which just kills me after 3 runs. Love the flatter
water. After the tide turned the wind increased, the river was still OK but
couldn't cope any more so packed up. All 3 of us had a great sail.
Thankfully the farmer has filled in some of the ruts at the field entrance
and getting down the lane wasn't too bad. Windsurfing venues are nearly
always crap locations for easy access. Getting dark early now, and cold
when the sun goes. 5 star sail today however. Still trying to find a
comfortable but effective harness, that don't aggravate my back. A shop
sent me a new Dakine fusion harness with the promise I could return it, if
it wasn't the most comfortable harness I tried! Flipping heck its a
brilliant seat harness. The medium height back gave the support of a waist
harness but the hook remained low and flat on full load due to the 8 point
strap load. You couldn't feel the load points and the whole seat absorbed
the load. Inside is memory foam, which felt uncomfortable on land until I
was sailing fully loaded sitting down! excellent as the moulding cradled my
arse. After trying 3 waist harnesses and 2 seats this is the one. Now have
to sell 2 harness that were good but not excellent as this DaKine.
